How Macy's Insite Works

If you're a Macy's or Bloomingdale's employee, Insite opens a direct connection to all of the corporate resources that are provided by your employer. These are made available in a simple and easy-to-use portal that is accessible from in-store kiosks at Blooimingdale's or Macy's, or from the comfort of your home computer, 24/7. Some of the portal's most popular features allow you to manage your work schedule, view your payslips, and request time off. Former employees can also access Insite in order to access their employment records.

Recent Employee Challenges (November 2023)

In our ongoing exploration of Macy's Insite, we recently stumbled upon a real-life scenario that highlights the system's potential in resolving everyday workplace issues.

One Macy's employee, who had just embarked on their employment journey, shared a personal experience with SoLoyal that emphasizes the importance of leveraging Macy's Insite effectively. During their second week on the job, this employee fell ill and found themselves in a bind when trying to communicate their absence to their manager. Initially, they struggled to obtain the correct contact information but eventually resorted to Macy's Insite to report their absence via the automated call-out system.

However, upon their return to work, a misunderstanding had arisen. The manager claimed not to have received the employee's message, despite the employee providing necessary identification details. This incident underscored the importance of clear and efficient communication between employees and their managers, which Macy's Insite can help facilitate. Additionally, the employee discovered that Macy's Insite offers a comprehensive solution for managing work schedules, including a reliability rating system. While attempting to understand and improve their reliability score, the employee encountered questions about the impact of protected time off (sick days) on their reliability rating.

This real-world experience highlights the need for comprehensive guidance to help employees navigate Macy's Insite efficiently. When used correctly, the system can be a powerful tool in ensuring smooth communication, recording sick days, and understanding reliability ratings, so we certainly hope SoLoyal's guide can be of help.

How to Register for Macy Insite

In order to access the portal for the first time, you'll need to register with your 8-Digit Employee ID and Date of Birth. Since your employer has a record of this information, your account will be automatically created once it's entered into the system and you'll just need to choose a Network Password so that you can easily access your account in the future.

Macy's Insite Login

You can access your account from any computer by heading to the Macy's My Site Sign In Screen. You'll need your 8-Digit Employee ID and the password you created at registration. If you forget your password, you can reset it using your Employee ID and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. Once you login successfully, you'll have full access to the In-Site system.

Macy's Employment Connection Features

Macy's Employee Connection is the area within the In-Site system that contains pertinent employment-related information and handles all employee requests. Macy's and Bloomingdale's have about 138,000 employees collectively, with about 95% of those being employed by Macy's alone. With so many people working for these companies, there are numerous questions that employees need answered and information that is sought out. In addition, past employees still have needs pertaining to their employment histories. This makes Macy's Employment Connection an extremely important tool for Macy's and Bloomingdale's employees, and there are numerous features available that help to properly handle all of these requests. We'll walk you through each area of the Macy's Employment Connection portal in order to answer any questions you may have while using the platform.

Macy's HR

The Macy's Human Resources Department provides outreach for employees with questions or concerns about their work conditions, sick leave, and schedule, as well as helping arrange training for new employees (about a 9-hour process before you start working) that covers work-related topics like customer relations, store security, sexual harassment, and other important focus areas.

MyHR

Macy's MyHR is a section of the Insite portal which can be accessed on your own. You'll have full access to important resources such as Paycheck City, TreasuryDirect, and employee verification records. Since many employees are cardholders of their employers' store-branded credit cards, you'll also have access to an area in which you can pay your Macy's Credit Card or, alternatively, make a payment on your Bloomingdale's Credit Card.

AskHR

As opposed to the self-service portal provided by MyHR, AskHr enables you to reach out to the human resources department directly through the In-Site portal. This is useful if you can't immediately find the information you're looking for, or if you'd just prefer to speak to an HR representative directly. For employees who wish to discuss personal issues in private, the HR hotline is a great resource. The Macy's and Bloomingdale's HR phone number is 1-800-234-6229.

Macy's My Site My Schedule Plus

Macy's and Bloomingdale's have a collective policy of offering maximum flexibility with regard to employee scheduling. With My Schedule Plus, you can take ownership of your working hours and choose the shifts that best suit your personal situation and desired work/life balance. Your employer has committed to honoring your shift requests except during periods of high sales volumes. These may include days on which Bloomingdale's and Macy's have special sales, or during the Holidays.

Shifts at Macy's and Bloomingdale's run between 6-8 hours in duration and you can choose the scheduling style that fits you best. These are called 'Scheduling Options' and they are designed to make choosing shifts as comfortable as possible. Depending on your needs, you'll fall into one of 6 'buckets' which will help your employer determine how to assign you shifts. For example, if you're a full time employee, you'll likely go for the option that offers 5 weekly shifts totalling around 35-40 hours. But if you need more flexibility, you can choose a shift assignment option that totals as little as 28 hours yet still enables you to work 5 days per week. There are 6 options like this which offer different degrees of flexibility, all the way down to spot shifts which occur just twice per week and last about 3-8 hours.

Creating your Macy's Insite Schedule

To choose your shifts in My Schedule Plus, login to insite. Then select which scheduling option suits you best. After that you can declare your overall availability and note your preferred availability. This is a super easy process where you'll just have to mark a few checkboxes which specify the days of the week where you know you won't be available. Macy's and Bloomingdale's then use this information to assign the shifts that work for you. You'll want to choose these carefully as they can only be changed during pre-defined periods that occur just a few times per year.

How to Check Your Schedule with My Schedule Plus

Macy's and Bloomingdale's Schedules are released by management 3 weeks in advance. Schedules are released on every third Friday, so be sure to access the Macy's Insite Employee Sign In area at this time in order to check your assigned shifts or request changes to your schedule. You can, for example, delay your shift's start time if you know you are going to be late, or pick up open shifts in order to meet the minimum hours you've committed to each week. This works great when picking up a shift within 2 hours of its start time. Last-minute changes to your shift's start time can only be made in 15-minute increments, and you can only delay the start time of your shift by up to 1 hour.

Swapping Out Your Shift with My Schedule Plus

You can also use Macy's Employee Connection to swap shifts with a coworker. Once you advertise that your shift is open, your colleagues can swoop in to try to pick it up. This is a great way to get out of shifts that you've previously committed to, but keep in mind that if no one picks up your shift the request will expire 2 hours before it's scheduled to start. If it expires, it will burn your Attendance Credits.

My In-Site Benefits

My-Insite's Employee Connection also has a dedicated section for your employment benefits. In this area you can access information about your Health & Welfare Plans, Colleague Discount, North Star Relief Plan, Commuter Benefits, and more. Since Macy's and Bloomingdale's employees are entitled to numerous employment benefits, it's extremely beneficial to have all of this information in one centralized location within the In-Site platform.

In-Site Forms

Macy's Employee Connection has a quick-access screen where you'll find some important forms related to optional charitable giving and your personal taxes. You can choose to donate to Dollars for Doers and you'll find the forms for doing so available on In-Site. One of the great advantages of working for Macy's or Bloomingdale's is that they have a charitable matching program where they will actually match the donations you've made. You'll find more information about how this works within the platform as well.

Macy Insite Summary

For Macy's and Bloomingdale's employees, In-Site is an invaluable tool that, if used correctly, can make your work experience valuable and rewarding. We hope this guide helped explain the many features available and that we've provided an overview of what Macy's Employment Connection can do for you.
